My idea of Art

sometimes I get an idea stuck in my head... Wednesday I saw an idea for a sign for our sun/mud room... this idea was gong to take some time... I kinda knew what I wanted it to look like when I was done.. I was not sure how to get it to that point...

SO I rummaged through the shed and found an old shutter with hardware on it.. I painted it white ( I would usually use a cream color BUT I didn't have anymore and I just "couldn't" wait until I got to the store)

As soon as it dried I distressed it.... I took my hand held sander to all the sides and had the original gray color come through

I placed it up on our shoe shelves and thought maybe it would be ok like that... My first thought was to turn it into a welcome sign... I was running out of time on Wednesday afternoon so I quickly placed in on the shoe shelf as a place holder for the finished project. I left it there for two days and today I couldn't stand it....  I needed to finish it. I quickly printed out a welcome to our home in fun font and put it on the shutter.... than the bottom section was left open and I felt it needed a little more....

I was flipping though my favorite Bible verses and I typed up 3 John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear my children are walking in the truth.
for some reason that really was not what I wanted to say... So I found another and chose a joy verse... Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always, I say it again Rejoice!
That one was perfect!

Sometimes it is the piece of wood that dictates what will be on the sign.. from an old milk door attached to the kitchen to a shutter turned welcome sign.... Other times it is a quote that I like so much that I need to find something to put it on.

New to my Blog

I decided to change up my background on my Blog tonight and I was searching through fonts to use... Usually I tend toward the girly swirly writing.... But I found a font called: "covered by your grace"  I felt it would be the perfect font to use to describe our lives... Easter approaches and we talk about what it means to be covered by the blood of Jesus... But do we think about it in how it apply s to everything we do and say? To me the font was a simple reminder.

What to do with an old ladder

I requested a wooden ladder on freecycle and I got a response from an awesome person who was even willing to deliver it for me because when he described it to me I was not sure I would be able to get it.. It was really LOOOOONG... He offered to bring it over for me!! I was ecstatic!

I have used it in all over the place indoors and out....

I used some of the ladder in the living room for display of ice skates (almost time to take them down!!) and coffee bags...

I use this ladder piece as a candle holder and In the summer I hang mason Jar candles to help illuminate the gate

I used a left over rung from the ladder to extend the windowsill so we can start seeds for our garden in the house....

This one is use to help my rose bush... It looks awesome right now I hope it produces more than last years 1 flower. The township took down some tree's in the front yard so hopefully it will get more sun and grow better... It it does well I may have to change out this short piece for the last long section..... or maybe i will use it for something else... I am thinking grape arbor?

After almost a year I an getting down to the end of my ladder...the last thing I made was a plant stand....

It got cold enough last night to frost last night so I needed to bring my plants in.... I just didn't want to drag them in and sit them all over the floor so I quickly found some more old pieces of a ladder and some old boards.. which happened to fit right inside the rungs..(with a little help from a persuader/ sledge hammer) there are old 2 screws holding it together... not the most sturdy but it is working.

Happy first day of spring to everyone!

whoop whoop its spring! what did you do on this lovely day?this morning like most mornings so far this "winter" we took a walk around to see all the changes in our yard.... some many different things coming back to life....

Connor learned he can mow the yard!!...

Riley joined in.... ALTHOUGH he felt it should be done more like bumper cars than regular mowing...

We made bird feeders for the birds  out of pine cones (found at great-grandma's house) and p-nut butter and bird seed...
Another great day! Welcome SPRING!

Connor and the eye dr. Round 2

Connor had another eye dr. visit yesterday...

Over all he did very good at the visit... we had to wait a LONG time the longer we waited to be seen by the second dr. the more frustrated he became (understandably our appt. was 9:40 and we were not seen till after 10:30)  Once again we received a not so personable experience...He was given the option of wearing a patch over his eye for a few hours a day OR get some corrective lenses... We opted for the patch... (Connor was very disappointed... he really wanted glasses  <---- I bet he will thank me later)

for now he enjoys being "pirate Connor" and we have two days under our belt with 5 1/2 weeks left to go... prayers are welcome and appreciated that this will help strengthen his eye so he will not need corrective lenses.... and most importantly that his eye strengthens and it stops crossing. thanks!

Summer Loving?

The date is March but it feels like it is early June.... AWESOME!! winter never really came this year.. well it started too in October when we lost a BUNCH of large tree branches and had a real MESS on our hands...

today was LOVELY! this entire week so far has been lovely and I have been a little too excited willing to move the seasons right long and embrace spring.... I went to the local flower shop and got some pansies and planted them around the house in different planters (with the thought that IF it gets cold again I can just bring them back in). I was also very adventurous in the garden... I planted onions, potatoes, lettuce, spinach and radishes... I guess I can cover them if need be...

we have been spending lots of time outside and having new adventures... Connor found a way to attach the sled to his four-wheeler and took off out of the garage with his brother in tow
it was quite a drain on his battery... AND he had been using it off and on all day  (best $50.00 ever!)... so he resorted to manual labor...
got me thinking about how I really wish I had had an older brother to pull me around... all around good day playing in the sunshine

The only down side is for the first time all "winter" we all have head colds... (well in Connor's case a slight tummy ache) So .... as much as we wanted to be outside today enjoying the weather, we were all sitting on the couch with a box of tissues at one point or another...

We did find a little time to be outside... It was impossible not too.... I found time to work on the garden...

Husband helped me work on the pond....

I put some old planters together and made a "new" table for the patio
now exhausted... I will curl up on the couch with some hot tea and wait for tomorrow so I can get out there and do it again tomorrow
