.85 cent shirt

We (the boys and I) hit up the dollar store and goodwill today. And I found this GREAT flannel shirt... only problem was it was a 3x!

I bought it thinking it would be a good possibility for a scarecrow... or maybe some pillows... 3x leaves a LOT of material!

I got home and was checking around on pinterest and I found this I got excited... I could do that...

Basically I followed her instructions...
I found a button down shirt that I like the way it fits me... and I used that for a "pattern"

I cut out around the shirt to get rid of the excess material... I left about 2 inches because I wanted the shirt to fit looser since it was a flannel.

Then I hemmed up the edges and basically put the shirt back together...

flooding

It rained this weekend.. ALOT! and we had some severe flooding on the Conestoga river here in Lancaster and some MAJOR flooding on the Susquehanna river in Harrisburg. We made out just fine... a small flow of water into our unfinished basement... noting we can't handle... we never lost electricity so lucky our sump pump was up and functioning...

My First experience with a severe flood was in 2004 when my Husband had family living along the Susquehanna river in West Fairview.
This Picture was taken Saturday evening at 6:00 (notice the bank you won't see that again)
I had never even seen the river high before!... we had front row seats to watch it rise...
It was amazing for me to see the power of the water... It would not be confined in any way to its banks...

This photo was taken Sunday Sept. 19th at 10:00 am

This photo was taken from the back deck at Nanny's at 12:00 noon on Sunday the 19th

While you were there you were part of this event.. Everyone knew the drill move everything to higher ground.. and sit back and wait.. there was noting more that could be done... there is a kind of a bond these people have with the river, not one of fear and anger but great respect

This picture was taken at 2:00 pm on Sunday the 19th the water has taken over the road and fully filled the basement

By 3:00 we were pushed even farther back the road using boats and waders to get to and from the house

I left to go to work... and once I left the rest of the word was already back to normal... The flooding of the river is an isolating event... If you are not affected you seem to be able to forget... but those affected can never forget.

This time around no one in our family lives by the river.. But many families do... My heart goes out to everyone who has to clean up, and rebuild. the gears in my mind are spinning... I wonder if I would be any good at disaster relief... My heart would be in it right now for sure..
