SO I rummaged through the shed and found an old shutter with hardware on it.. I painted it white ( I would usually use a cream color BUT I didn't have anymore and I just "couldn't" wait until I got to the store)
As soon as it dried I distressed it.... I took my hand held sander to all the sides and had the original gray color come through
I placed it up on our shoe shelves and thought maybe it would be ok like that... My first thought was to turn it into a welcome sign... I was running out of time on Wednesday afternoon so I quickly placed in on the shoe shelf as a place holder for the finished project. I left it there for two days and today I couldn't stand it.... I needed to finish it. I quickly printed out a welcome to our home in fun font and put it on the shutter.... than the bottom section was left open and I felt it needed a little more....
I was flipping though my favorite Bible verses and I typed up 3 John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear my children are walking in the truth.
for some reason that really was not what I wanted to say... So I found another and chose a joy verse... Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always, I say it again Rejoice!
That one was perfect!
Sometimes it is the piece of wood that dictates what will be on the sign.. from an old milk door attached to the kitchen to a shutter turned welcome sign.... Other times it is a quote that I like so much that I need to find something to put it on.

Wonderful project. I love old doors and windows repurposed.
ReplyDeleteI love it! When you say you "printed out" the words, how exactly did you do it? Is it vinyl or do you have a method of printing from your computer and adhering it to the wood? I would love to know how you did it.
ReplyDeleteJerilyn, I actually found this tutorial on Pinterest and followed her directions(http://diddledumpling.blogspot.com/2010/05/tutorial-vintage-looking-painted-sign.html)It is just a regular printer with regular paper. noting special at all. It is really easy! I hope it works for you!
DeleteHi Can you tell me how you set up your page for the welcome and the verse lettering? What font did you use?
