Happy Firday

This spring has been tough on us... for some reason we all have a cold that we can't seem to shake! we have been taking weekly trips to the dr. first for Connor..then Riley had a double ear infection.... that has cleared up but his runny nose and cough still hasn't! and yesterday we went back again because Connor's eye was giving him problems.. it is all red and looks like there is a white spot on the white of his eye.. not like pink eye but like something else... poor guy!

The dr. said it looks like he got poked with something and that was causing the eye irritation...
He never complained and we are not sure how or when it happened... It isn't slowing him down at all..

We hung out with some friends on Wednesday evening and Connor was more than a little excited to get into their creek!

All the kids had a great time...  I really don't care one bit about mud... I love it!... I love when my kiddo's feel free to PLAY without fear of hearing me scold them for getting messy... I know that they are having fun and making memories and to me that is the most important thing..

We warmed up by a camp fire and the kiddo's (and me) made roasted marshmallows...

Just hanging out and enjoying the evening...

Today we ventured out to my friends house because for Mother's day she received the gift of an open pool.... She posted some pictures on Facebook of the pool, which Connor saw and he thought he should like to go...
so we did

Riley tried to get it but the water really was to cold for him 68 degrees... BURRR! to cold for me too...

Connor didn't mind he was in and out and in and out... I thought he would only get in and find out it was too cold and get out and want to leave... He didn't he LOVED it.. we were there for and hour and a half!

it is going to be a great summer!

The weather is beautiful and the boys have a fun filled weekend planned! If only my house would magically clean itself...

5 Min. No Sew Wall Art

This project is part of my play room re-do. More on that later...
I had some left over fabric from another project...

I knew I had some picture frames I was not using anymore...
I cut out the fabric that needed to fill up the picture frame, it looked boring, I needed more

I had the idea to cut out the Boys initials....

I used a fun font and printed out the letters...

I pinned the letters to the fabric of my choice and cut out the letters....

I thought about sewing the letters to the first fabric, but I wanted results faster... so I used a safety pin

I actually think it looks just fine, it adds to the "boyish" look of the letter

Really fast and easy! I am happy with the result plus the colors are so bright and I like it a lot!

Life

Life is rolling along just fine... sometimes I feel like time is just flying by and sometimes I need to slow down and enjoy.

I recently got to check red rabbit off of my "to do" list.... we FINALLY went.
In college we would drive past this awesome retro drive-in restaurant.. on our way to and from school.. it was never open (or we were in a hurry) and we never stopped...
I absolutely love the look and atmosphere of this little place... I feel like behind the property there should be a drive-in movie theater...
old pin-ball games and a creepy clown...
the service was great and the food was great too! they bring it out on a tray and hook it to your car window... everything about it was cute and just the way I had always pictured it. totally worth the trip.

I am trying to rid my yard of pests...mosquitoes.. flies.. and ticks! and keep the bunnies away from the garden...

I am adding planters of citronella and cat nip around my patio's .... it is supposed to repel mosquitoes I am also adding marigolds to keep those Bunnies away...
It is awesome HOW much these plants actually smell like citronella it is really quite cool!

my little garden.. all filled up... now all I need is for it to start growing ...
I would LOVE to have a larger garden... I don't have very much sun... I would really like to have some strawberries and sweet corn yet, but I need a lot more room... I am just dreaming..
(Love the dirty nails?) I already have some flowers on my early tomatoes...I am deff. running low on the tomatoes I canned last year and I am almost out of peppers in the freezer... soon...very soon...

And for today.. I think we will ":Camp out" in the backyard and enjoy the sunshine of today.

Goodwill's been Good to Me...

I love when I find things that I am looking for.. it always happens when I am not actually looking for anything..
today we took a trip to Goodwill.. I found a cute skirt form Gap.. with the tags still on for 3.50!... the original tag says 44.00! CRAZY! ... as great as that sounds... that was not the real surprise...

I found pennants!

I am in love with the idea of gathering pennants for my boys from our family adventures... (Blackwater falls, West Virgina and Pennsylvania Grand Canyon)

Riley's reading corner in his room
I also like to decorate there rooms with them... I actually have them everywhere... home-made and most made out of construction paper...
The ones I found are GREAT! they are sports themed.. antique looking... and match Riley's theme perfectly! not only did I find one strand I found 2 matching ones! the price?... 2.95 each! YES PLEASE! I snatched them both up :)

Another time I was shopping around at Goodwill.. not looking for anything I found a pottery barn surf board rug for Connor's room... this was a rug I was familiar with... when we were first decorating his room... in my dream room for him I would have this rug.. but at 89.00 there was NO way he would ever have it in his room.. but when I found it at goodwill for under 5.00 I didn't even think twice about it!

I have no problem shopping in thrift stores! I love a good deal no matter where it comes from!
You just always need to be looking/ never looking for anything in particular... happy thrift shopping!

The evolution of a book shelf

I Love Free Stuff... no matter where  it come from freecycle or family..
when we moved into our "new" house didn't quite have enough furniture... my Aunt and Uncle were cleaning out there home office and getting new furniture.. they asked it I would be interested in there old stuff... OF COURSE I was.. They had two 5 tier book shelf.. I only took one (I should have taken both... )
It was not a color that I really liked, it was med to dark brown veneered fiberboard...
the very first thing I did when we got home was paint it..

(a very bad picture I know.. I never took a good one of the book self.. I guess I was never to happy with it)
I threw on a coat of off white paint and distressed the edges.. It worked, I changed the shelves a little to store toys and a small tv for the kiddo's in the playroom...

it was our main source of storage in the playroom for almost 2 years.. BUT we outgrew it... mostly because this Christmas Connor got a Wii and we brought the old TV down out of the attic for the playroom...

Playroom today

What the playroom usually looks like
It was banished to the basement... It was supposed to look distressed... But after being in the play room it was VERY distressed...
Connor made a comment the other day that he would like a book shelf in his room... I was in the mood for a project ... I remembered the book shelf in the basement... I pulled it up the basement stairs... and up a second flight to Connor's room... in doing that I "distressed" the paint even more! haha sooooo.. I just couldn't leave it as it was. I attempted to paint "racing stripes" like the ones on his rug.. But I didn't like it...
So I thought chalkboard paint would be fun.. and it was! Connor is always asking to paint and decorate things... I have chalkboard paint on his dresser drawers... But he does not have too much room to decorate... so the large open area's on the shelf are great.. I love children's art!
Connor's always messy room... yes that is a random cinder block as a night stand... I thought it was boyish...

I like reusing things I already have and giving them a new purpose... like the old ladder for Connor's bunk bed... the cinder block night stand and the book shelf that has changed ALOT in 2 years..from playroom to banishment in the basement.. to new life in Connor's room.  The total cost of this project was $14.00 that was for the cost of paint... and I still have a bunch left over so I think Riley will get something done in his room too...

Hello Monday

Hello Monday and back to reality...
What a wonderful weekend we had!
My Husband turned 30!
my kiddo's spent the weekend at my parent's house
We had Friday night date night and made reservations for an 8:00 dinner
We ate at Iron Hill Brewery: I had originally planned this birthday dinner to be a larger group of family, but something came up and no one could make it... so it was just me and him...
It was beautiful... We were given a booth (the ONLY way I like to eat in a busy restaurant.. it makes it feel so private)
It was a great evening filled with great food...
great conversation... we had no time we needed to be home... no bedtime... to babysitter to send home.. it was great! by 30 I think you start to appreciate the slower paced relaxing evenings....but I'll let you know for sure WHEN I turn 30...

On Saturday evening we went out for dinner AGAIN!
we went to Quips Pub it was once again great food and fun conversation...
.... a girl could get used to this :)

On Sunday (his actual birthday)
We went to my parents house after church to get our kiddo's.. we had Lunch and cake and Ice-cream

Achenbach pastries offer's a "cake" made of long john doughnuts... My Husbands favorite!

After Lunch Connor and I went for a walk with kate ( the best dog ever! and the one we are dogsitting) and we ended up on the farm searching for kittens... we found some! Cute little things white with black splotches.. so little their eyes were not open yet ... Connor was so excited to tell great -grandpa about the kitties! he ran the whole way to the house.. I just love watching him discover the same things I enjoyed discovering when I was his age... I watched him run down the barn hill and I remember finding kitty's and having the same excited feeling... I love watching him of the farm, I have so many precious memories of my childhood on the farm I want him to have fond memories too...
Grandpa was even generous enough to give Connor a tractor ride! Connor was so excited he has been wanting a tractor ride for a while now..(since we moved we don't get them near as often as we used too)

Good-bye weekend...

Hello Monday!
Challenge: Let's make this week as filled with wonderful memories as the weekend!
